USC football coach Shane Beamer issued a commitment alert on Tuesday night for the 2028 class, meaning the Gamecocks have their first pledge for that recruiting cycle. “Great start to the week,” Beamer posted. “Elite players want to play with elite players. Still feeling the effect of last week!!!” A source told SportsTalkSC Tuesday night that the target of the alert is expected to make his commitment public Wednesday morning around 10:30. One possibility for the commitment is WR Jet Gibbs (6-2, 195) of Burlington, NC. He reposted Beamer’s post, and he also has a USC-related graphic on his X account. Gibbs visited USC on March 28th, and he was also back for camp in June. The Gamecocks offered him on June 2nd. He also has offers from Florida, North Carolina, NC State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, and others.
One-time USC target LB Mikahi Allen of Ramsey, NJ is set to make his commitment announcement on Saturday. He lists the Gamecocks in his final three with Texas and Texas A&M, but he did not make an official visit with the Gamecocks and only visited once this year, and that was for a spring practice in March. He has been projected to Texas A&M, where former Spring Valley and Auburn star linebacker Travis Williams is the Associate Head Coach and Linebackers coach.
Woodruff RB Aiden Gibson pulled off a double-stunner on Tuesday. First, he announced he was ending his commitment to Penn State and making a new commitment to Rutgers. On top of that, he announced he would forgo his senior season with the Wolverines and reclassify to join the Scarlet Knights in August. Gibson posted the following on X:
Thank you to all the support and support behind my decisions. Penn State was one of the best opportunity for me! But after long time thinking, I have decided to part ways with Penn State and have decided to flip my commitment to Rutgers and enroll early. Thank you to my community. Thank you, Penn State, for the amazing opportunity y’all have given me and treated me. Thank you to my community for understanding me and listening to me and understanding everything about me. Thank you for everything and all the support down the road and in the past.”
According to a story by BlueWhiteIllustrated, on June 26th, Gibson posted on TikTok that football no longer was fun for him. “The staff and everything has made me lose love for it all,” Gibson wrote. The report stated there was an altercation earlier in the month at a 7on7 involving Gibson, and he was going to be suspended for part of the season. According to the story, after getting wind of this, Rutgers moved back in on Gibson, was able to get him cleared to enroll for this season, and offered a large, upfront signing bonus and a car. Clemson offered 6-3 Josh Tyson of West Chester, OH. Cincinnati, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier are scheduled for OVs at this point. Michigan State and Penn State have also offered.
