STRecruiting Notebook 6-24: South Carolina lands a top shortstop from Wake Forest; Another Demon Deacon eyeing the Gamecocks; One-time South Carolina target staying in his home state; Furman lands two OL from Georgia

Wake Forest free agent SS JD Stein announced his commitment to South Carolina on Wednesday. In his one season with the Demon Deacons, Stein hit .266 with five homers and 41 RBIs. He was 13-15 on steal attempts. Defensively, he committed 12 errors and had a fielding percentage of .934. Coming out of high school in Carmel, IN in 2025, Stein was ranked by Perfect Game as the #5 prospect in the country.

Wake Forest OF Luke Costello has put his name into the free agent portal, and per John Whittle of TheBigSpur, will visit South Carolina Thursday. Costello’s brother, Andrew, has already made the move from Wake to USC.

South Carolina RHP Alex Philpott is in the free agent portal. In his one season with the Gamecocks after arriving from Florida, Philpott was 0-5 with one save and a 6.51 ERA.

One time South Carolina target OL Stafford Willis of Arab, AL committed to Alabama Tuesday night. He also had UCLA, Virginia and Virginia Tech on his final list. Willis made his official visit to USC the first weekend in May. He also made visits in March and April.

One-time Clemson target WR Deshawn Hall of Prattville, AL committed to Auburn.

South Carolina target DE Josiah Sturdivant was offered by Tennessee. He is currently a Rutgers commitment.

OT Gavin Bray (6-7 285) of Watkinsville, GA committed to Furman.

OL Caleb Wise (6-4 305) of Marietta, GA committed to Furman.

Dorman DL James Porter committed to ECU.

Woodruff WR MiCah McClintock committed to FAU.
