STRecruiting Notebook 6-23: Jake McCoy finds a new home in the SEC; More free agent activity for USC; Shane Beamer with a commitment alert, and two more DE offers

Former South Carolina pitcher Jake McCoy is headed to Tennessee. He made the announcement Monday night on social media. The Catawba Ridge product spent three seasons with the Gamecocks. He was expected to be one of the top lefthanders in college baseball this season, but a tear in his UCL required surgery, and he missed the entire season. In his two seasons with USC, McCoy was 5-5 with a 7.11 ERA. He struck out 97 in 76 innings. He also walked 55 batters, hit 23, and yielded 17 home runs. McCoy is also considered a prospect for the upcoming MLB Draft.

Former South Carolina LHP Bryce Navarre is headed to Lamar.

Per Pete Nakos of On3…USC free agent 1B Will Craddock visited USC last week and will visit Georgia and Mississippi State this week.  A decision is expected this week;  USC free agent RHP Riley Goodman will visit Georgia on Thursday.  USC and Vanderbilt are also in the mix; USC is showing interest in Georgia OF Ty Peeples, who hit .294 in 17 at-bats as a true freshman this season; Wake Forest SS JD Stein will visit USC on Tuesday. As a freshman this season, he hit .266 with 5 homers and 41 RBIs.

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer issued a commitment alert Monday night, and the alert appears to be connected to an in-state prospect based on the GIF Beamer used. This makes for the third commitment alert for Beamer which has not yet been connected to a public commitment.

South Carolina offered DE Josiah Sturdivant (6-4 230) of Wake Forest, NC. He has been committed to Rutgers. NC State also recently offered, and he also has offers from East Carolina, ODU, and Liberty.

South Carolina offered DE Jayden Broadie (6-3 225) of Raleigh. Broadie also has offers from Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Tennessee, NC State, Wake Forest, Georgia, and James Madison.

QB Luke Gaither, who had accepted a PWO offer from South Carolina, is now headed to Coastal Carolina.

WR Brody Knowles, who had some South Carolina involvement, committed to Illinois.

One-time Clemson target LB Sean Fox of Indianapolis is set to announce on Thursday from the NIKE Opening.  He listed Clemson, Kentucky and Georgia as finalists, though Paul Strelow of TigerIllustrated as reported that Clemson had moved on from him. 

Clemson offered 2028 ATH Antonio Edwards (6-0 170) of Chattanooga.

Virginia Tech offered 2028 guard Kaleb Allen of Christ Church.
