Clemson’s 2028 recruitment has seen some big swings thus far, especially in the secondary. Another pursuit is bound to become official soon.
Dabo Swinney’s High School Camp brought in plenty of top names for the upcoming cycle, with visits being sprinkled in as the summer truly gets started.
That was the case for defensive back Tyler Boyd (6-0, 189) of Carrollton (GA), who visited Clemson recently. Boyd has an offer from just about every program in the country, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Indiana, Oregon, and Notre Dame. So, Coach Swinney made sure to bring Boyd in for an introductory visit.
Originally, a visit to Notre Dame was slated on the schedule, but he wanted to give the Tigers a close look. In Boyd’s mind, Clemson’s setup is “one of one.”
“Yeah, my first time, you know, on campus and at Clemson, visiting and looking at all the things,” Boyd said. The facilities are awesome. It’s one of one.”
What’s making Clemson stand out is not just his childhood familiarity, growing up watching the Tigers hoist trophies in Tampa Bay and Santa Clara, but also with what would be his position coach’s success in sending players to the NFL.
Mike Reed certainly has a strong track record, and with Avieon Terrell being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round, that reputation only continues to grow. Boyd sees that being a major factor in Clemson’s standing.
“That will play a big role,” he explained. “Avieon Terrell, he just got drafted. I really like watching him, you know; that’s how I try to model my game after all, you know. He’s just tenacious, and he makes plays. So, sending him to the league and guys like Nate Wiggins and AJ Terrell, it shows; it speaks volumes on how Coach Reed coaches and his track record.”
Boyd is taking his time with his recruitment, sorting through an arsenal of options. Clemson is planning to be one of those choices down the road, and the idea of receiving an offer from a school he watched growing up would be a big deal.
“I’d be honored to get an offer from Clemson,” Boyd confessed. “I was watching them when I was younger. I’m from Alabama originally, so you’re watching those national championships and just watching Coach Swinney and how he coached. I really enjoyed Clemson, and they’re one of my dream schools. So getting an offer from them would mean a lot.”
