2028 prospect Tyler Boyd (6-0, 189) couldn’t make it to Clemson’s game against Miami this weekend, but he still made a big leap in his relationship with the Tigers. The highly touted defensive back from Carrollton (GA) announced an offer from Clemson on Friday, a moment that feels like a long time coming for the top cornerback.

Boyd has been in communication with Clemson since June, after a summer visit that opened the door for Dabo Swinney’s program to become a top school for him.

“It took a while for the offer to come, but it was definitely worth the wait,” Boyd said. “I definitely was appreciative of it. I won’t say I got the sense the offer was coming. I didn’t know when it was coming, but I know how I’ve been playing this season. And I know what the coaches told me: it was coming soon.”

Mike Reed and Corico Wright were on the call when they offered Boyd, highlighting his progress throughout the year and indicating that he had demonstrated enough to warrant an offer.

“We talked for a minute, just telling me how I’ve been playing so far this season,” he recalled. “They’ve been very impressed, and they offered me, kind of like a full-circle moment, because I came in the summertime, and I remember just seeing our facilities and the coaches and things like that. I was very impressed.”

Outside of the Tigers, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, Miami, and other top schools have caught Boyd’s eye, but the Clemson offer has added a new dynamic to his recruitment. He knows this program doesn’t hand out offers regularly, making the staff’s selectivity feel like an endorsement of the player he’s become.

Now, he and Clemson’s relationship can truly grow, as Boyd hopes to return to campus with a new offer in hand for a game day visit.

“The offer definitely changed that because I know it’s real now,” Boyd stated. “I know Clemson just doesn’t offer everybody. So definitely getting a Clemson offer means a lot. Can’t wait to keep building the relationship that we already have and just keep building on that and see where it goes. Yeah, I definitely plan on getting out for a game. I don’t know exactly when, but certainly sometime this fall, I’ll definitely be getting out.”
