STRecruiting: Latest from Byrnes CB (and Auburn commitment) Aidyn Wiggins following latest visit to South Carolina

Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins has regularly visited USC for games this season. Last Saturday, he was on hand as the Gamecocks shocked 11th-ranked Tennessee with a field goal on the final play. That was his third game visit of the season.

“I thought the defense actually played very good this week,” Wiggins said. “And then Dylan Stewart coming away with a big, big strip-sack late in the game to set up the game-winner, that was great. And then the environment from the sack until the field goal and storming the field, that was all great.”

And yes, like thousands of fans, and most if not all of the recruits in the stands, Wiggins rushed the field to celebrate with the Gamecocks.

“I was close to Coach (Shane) Beamer, Coach (Torrian) Gray, and Tristan Lewis. I walked past LaNorris Sellers and then Shed Surratt,” Wiggins said.

Wiggins not only saw Beamer and Gray on the field, but he had some direct conversations with the coaches who continue to sell him on why he should join them for future celebrations on the field at Williams-Brice.

“Just telling me how I could be a good corner for them and also alongside Josh (Dobson), how we could both do great things in that defense, and how I need to stay home,” Wiggins said. “South Carolina is actually coming up, especially after beating two teams back-to-back that were ranked in the national top 20. So that was big. Auburn is still number one, of course, but Carolina is pushing hard. They’re close. I would say the visit definitely increased my interest in them.”

Can Wiggins foresee changing his commitment from Auburn to the Gamecocks?

“Right now, no, but anything can happen at any given moment,” he said.

Wiggins said he will return to USC for either the Texas A&M or Georgia game. He also plans to visit Florida State and Auburn before the end of the season.

This season, Wiggins has 19 tackles with two interceptions and two pass deflections.
