Richmond (Va.) Huguenot wide receiver Iveon Lewis (6-2, 185) has flipped his commitment from Kentucky to USC. The talented wideout had been pledged to the Wildcats since early May but changed his mind after taking his final official visit to Columbia on June 20th.
Lewis caught 41 passes for 1046 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He brings the size and skills to the position that USC wide receivers coach Mike Furrey requires.
“I’m very physical. I know how to get in and out of my routes,” Lewis told SportsTalk recently. “When the ball is in the air, it’s mine. When the ball is in the air, I go get it. And I’m smart on the field.”
He visited USC this spring and got to see Furrey and his receivers in action.
“I went to a practice and I liked it a lot,” he explained. “That’s somewhere I can see myself playing, fitting in the offense.”
Lewis added that Furrey is doing all he can to show him that USC is the right place, and apparently that message resonated with the former UK commitment.
“They’ve been closing in. I know for sure if I go crazy with one of these programs, I’ve got a shot at achieving my dream (of reaching the NFL).”
Since last Tuesday, South Carolina’s head coach has sent out commitment alerts for five 2027 recruits. Two are now unclaimed. The others were for offensive lineman Clayton Lee (Callahan, Fla.) and James Ross (Columbia, S.C.). Ross announced his commitment on Tuesday morning.
