STRecruiting: DE JiQuan Rogers has a strong feeling for Clemson following his official visit

Clemson had a focus on defensive end for the official visit weekend just passed, with six coming in for a closer look. One of them, Santana Harvey of Lakeland, FL, already had his mind made up and committed on Friday.

Another, JiQuan Rogers (6-3 220) of Birmingham, appears close to following suit.

He saw a lot that he liked at Clemson.

“The players, the coaches, the facilities, and I liked how the coaches made me feel like I was at home,” Rogers said. “It was like I knew everybody. They just treated us good.”

Clemson defensive ends coach Chris Rumph has been working Rogers for the Tigers since offering him in mid-April. On this visit, Rogers got a good idea from Rumph about how he would be used if he joined the Tigers.

“I would be used in my first year as a third-down player to just go get the quarterback, and then develop,” Rogers said. “After my first year, I can develop into an all four down D-lineman.”

Rumph wasn’t alone in courting Rogers this weekend. Head coach Dabo Swinney also got in his swings.

“I love both of them,” Rogers said. “It’s the same way towards me. They love me. They really want me to come.”

Rogers said the result of the visit put Clemson at “the top” with him. “Number one.” He has an official visit to Arkansas scheduled for this weekend, but that might not happen. He said he has a commitment graphic in the works to reveal his choice, and that could be as early as Tuesday.

He also has official visits set with Georgia Tech and Colorado, and has looked at Florida for an official visit as well. Some of his other offers are Arkansas, Colorado, Florida State, Mississippi State, and NC State.

Last season, Rogers accounted for 56 tackles and 14 sacks.
