STRecruiting: Clemson is hoping its recruiting momentum at the tight end position will continue with 2028 prospect Wright Martin

Clemson tight ends coach Kyle Richardson has begun looking ahead to the next crop of prospects, and it’s safe to say one Tennessee pass catcher will have Clemson high on his recruiting list this fall.

2028 tight end Wright Martin (6-2, 250) of Nashville (TN) Christ Presbyterian Academy has been connected to the program for some time, and now it’s his turn to be recruited by the Tigers.

Martin has always admired Clemson from afar, seeing the program recruit Christ Presbyterian Academy alum Kane Patterson years ago. But an opportunity to check out the Tigers in late November, coupled with a camp experience, was enough to sell him on what Clemson can deliver on the recruiting trail.

“I went to the Furman game in the fall and camp this summer,” Wright said. “At both of those, Coach Richardson was awesome. Once he offered, I was fired up because I’ve always liked Clemson since Kane Patterson went there.”

Alongside Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, Virginia, and Maryland have extended offers to Martin, with the rising junior seeing his recruitment explode throughout the summer.

Martin has always viewed Clemson as a serious contender, dating back to the Tigers’ recruitment of Patterson. His perspective was enhanced over time, especially his relationship with Richardson.

“With everything Coach Swinney has built, I’ve always thought they were a great program,” he explained. “Once I got to be around him and Coach Rich, it made me realize that even more.”

Martin, the son of former Furman and Florida QB Ingle Martin, is ready to get back on campus, having already locked down a visit for the Georgia Southern home opener, and is eyeing a return for the Miami game in October.

While his top schools have been established, a trimmed list and commitment date are still up in the air, with Martin hoping to use his fall visits as a chance to find more clarity in this process.

What’s clear is that Richardson has positioned Clemson to move further up the recruiting board this fall.
