Clemson men’s basketball just filled its final roster spot with a familiar face. Tigers guard Dillon Hunter is set to return to the program, according to Larry Williams of Tigerillustrated. Hunter also shared the announcement via social media on Monday afternoon.
Hunter, along with more than 30 other plaintiffs, was awarded a fifth year from a temporary injunction by a Georgia judge on Aug. 5.
The NCAA announced a new “5 in 5” eligibility model in June, which grants athletes five seasons of eligibility and eliminates redshirts and waivers. Class of 2022 athletes were excluded from the new model, meaning those who played their final season in 2025-26 wouldn’t be eligible for 2026-27.
This decision overturns the NCAA’s decision and gives the athletes named in the lawsuit an extra season. The NCAA appealed a Colorado federal judge’s decision to grant all class of 2022 athletes a fifth year and was granted a stay on the ruling in August, putting the decision in limbo. Hunter’s eligibility won’t be affected by the stay or the appeal in that case because of the ruling in Georgia.
Hunter started all 35 games he played in last season for the Tigers, averaging eight points and three assists, while shooting 35% from three and 79% from the free-throw line. He shared on his Instagram account in July that he had signed a professional contract with Eisbären Bremerhaven of Germany’s ProA league.
