STRecruiting: Clemson and South Carolina looking into the mountains at two-position ATH Kayden Whiteside

ATH Kayden Whiteside (5-11 165) is back in his hometown of Asheville in the mountains of North Carolina after three seasons at Fork Union, VA. He has plans to come down from the mountaintop to see South Carolina on September 5th and Clemson on September 12th.

It will be his first game-day visit with each school, and both are recruiting him as a receiver. Whiteside can also play cornerback.

“I’m most definitely very high on both of them. Can’t wait to get on campus,” Whiteside said.

Whiteside has been to Clemson for camps but not for a game. He and receivers coach Tyler Grisham are still developing that relationship.

“He tells me to make sure I stay focused, stay locked in, keep getting better every day,” Whiteside said. “We got tight after my second time going to camp. He stays in contact like every week. He’s very consistent.  I wouldn’t be surprised if I get offered at the game I’m going to on September 12th. He hasn’t specifically said that, but when I went there, he told me I’m his number one guy.”

South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey is further down the road in recruiting Whiteside than his counterpart at Clemson. He’s already offered him.

“I’ve gotten to talk to him a couple of times. I went to camp, and then I got back up to South Carolina for a seven-on-seven,” he said. “I like Coach Furrey a lot. We’ve talked on the phone a couple of times. We’re close, I would say. I like South Carolina. I like how once I get on campus, it feels like home. It’s a great spot. I like the hospitality, coaches, coaching staff, and system.”

Whiteside has also set game day visits with Wake Forest, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Florida, and Tennessee. He also has offers from Boston College, Missouri, West Virginia, Louisville, and others.

Whiteside said he does not have a favorites list just yet, and he’d like to make his decision next summer.
