STRecruiting: Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins remains committed to Auburn, but at least two other programs are keeping up their recruiting efforts

Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins committed to Auburn in early June, with Syracuse, Virginia Tech and LSU also among his favorites at the time. Wiggins has not swayed from that pledge one bit to this point, but other recruiters keep trying to turn him.

“It’s (commitment) very strong. It’ll be very hard for any of the schools to flip me just because of the relationship with Coach Goles (Alex Golesh), Coach (DJ) Durkin, Coach DVD (DeMarcus Van Dyke), and the rest of the staff, and the other commits as well. We all have a great connection, so it’ll be hard, at least for me.”

South Carolina offered Wiggins June 15th, and he subsequently visited for a 7-on-7 and a camp. Shane Beamer scored a pair of big defensive back commitments in July from Joshua Dobson and Davion Jones, and he’s still trying to convince Wiggins to join those guys.

“The latest with South Carolina? I talked to Shane Beamer maybe two to three weeks ago,” Wiggins said. “He was saying to keep him in the loop. And he was talking about how Josh is talking about getting players to flip, and he’s hoping that I was one of them. And he was saying how he wants the best players in the state to stay in the state. They talked to me about coming in for a game, and they’re trying to talk to me about getting an official visit in, but I most likely won’t take it. I have thought about coming in for a game.”

Wiggins added that a new school, not previously publicized as a contender for him, has now gotten involved.

“Florida State just came in, just talking and said to keep an eye on them,” Wiggins said. “Just watch them when I’m not watching the Auburn game. “Just keep them in the mix. I’ve been talking with Coach Blue Adams. He actually came from Michigan State, so he came in late. But Coach (DJ) Daniels (Director of Recruiting Strategy) was putting a word in his ear because I’ve been on their board. He knows that FSU was late and that he got there late, but he really loves my family, and he wants me to keep an eye on them.”

Wiggins last talked with Blue, the new cornerbacks coach for the Seminoles, on July 14th. They haven’t talked yet about a visit, and like with USC, he said he’s not likely to take an official visit.

Wiggins said he plans to visit Auburn for the Florida game on September 19th, and he realizes it’s a long way to December before he can officially sign with the Tigers.

“I’m going to be leaning towards Auburn just because of the relationship, but anything can happen until Signing Day,” Wiggins said. “So, I’m going to keep an eye out for all the teams.”
