STRecruiting: (UPDATE: Tisby announced commitment to USC Monday) 2027 SF Frashad Tisby reviews his official visit weekend at South Carolina, and things sound promising for the Gamecocks

South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris landed his first commitment for the 2027 class on Monday in 6-7 Frashad Tisby of Augusta.  Tisby made his official visit with the Gamecocks over the weekend.   That was his final official visit following earlier trips to Marquette, Harvard and Yale.

Paris and his staff made Tisby a focal point of their recruiting during the summer and then capped the effort with a strong official visit with Tisby.  

“It went well,” Tisby said. “The last two, three times I went up there, mainly it was about the basketball part that I saw, so I didn’t really get to tour the campus or do anything of that nature. So, this time, I was able to tour the campus, see all the type of dorms, see all the academic classes, and where I could see myself talking to all the academic advisors.”

But there was also plenty of discussion about the basketball program and how he would fit in with the Gamecocks.

“Me and Coach Paris, we’ve been always talking,” Tisby said. “He always said I had a nice feel for the game and the little things I do, not just scoring, not the stuff in the stat sheet, the stuff outside the stat sheet.  They say I’m kind of a unique player, and they like the way that I can facilitate the ball at my size.  I’m a 6’6 combo guard, so the way that I can score the ball, and the way I can pass the ball, they said I do a lot of the little things that help win games and make a lot of winning plays.”

Tisby added that he was impressed with the work Paris has done with his players from a development standpoint. 

“They’ve also put a couple of players in the league. So, I can see if that could be me one day,” Tisby said.  “I would love that because that’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. For me to be coached under a well-known coach that’s put players in the league, that’s a great feeling.”

Paris first offered Tisby as a junior, then got another good look at him when his team participated in summer camp with the Gamecocks.  

Last season, Tisby averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game, and was named the 3A Player of the Year in Georgia.
