2027 Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins has been a frequent visitor to USC this season, despite his commitment to Auburn made in the summer. Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer scouted Wiggins during the Gamecocks’ open week, and secondary coach Torrian Gray has been in regular contact.
This weekend, Wiggins returns to USC with his family in tow for his official visit. He makes this visit while still committed to Auburn, and he’s not sure there’s anything that will lead him to flip. But he is excited about this opportunity to spend a couple of days getting to know the Gamecocks even more than he already does.
“I want to connect more with the coaches,” Wiggins said Monday night. “I mean, when I’ve been out there, I’ve connected with them, but now, I’m going to be there for a three-day weekend. I can really sit down and talk to them and learn more about them. And then, with the game day visit, I can really see how they operate on game day and then see what the city’s like after a game, especially if they win. I can see how the city’s like after a big win.”
Wiggins already knows a lot about the program and the plans the coaches have for him, but he still has some questions to pose this weekend to Gray.
“How can he see me being developed, where he can see me playing, and how many guys he plans on getting out of the Portal and things like that,” Wiggins said. “Just seeing how many players they are going to get out of the portal and how many cornerbacks are going to be on the depth chart.”
Wiggins is also looking forward to his end-of-visit sit-down with Beamer, where he knows he’ll get the final pitch from the head coach on why he should be a Gamecock.
“I know for sure he’s going to be telling me to stay home and how I can come play for him and do big things with him,” Wiggins said. “Come in and play for him early and help him accomplish things that not only just him but everybody in the building wants to accomplish.”
Wiggins was watching last Saturday as the Gamecocks notched their third straight win in dominant fashion at Oklahoma. That performance was a far cry from some of the games he saw earlier in the season.
“It was a big change from the beginning of the season, when they would be up big in games, and somehow the opposing team would come back and eventually win,” he said. “But these past couple of weeks, they finished the games strong, especially with Oklahoma being a top-ranked team and shutting them out pretty much the whole game, and continuing to do that till the game was over. It was very good.”
Despite all this positive talk about the Gamecocks, and his plans to still visit Florida State next weekend, Wiggins remains committed to Auburn, despite the Tigers having their struggles under first-year coach Alex Golesh with a 4-4 overall record and 2-4 SEC mark.
“It’s a new staff and rebuilding, so I’m not really stressed on how the record looks right now,” Wiggins said. “It’s pretty much a whole new coaching staff with new coaches coming in. So it’s really not stressing me.”
Wiggins added that the financial side of recruiting is not going to be the determining factor for him.
“Mostly academics and football and how I can be developed,” Wiggins said, and he indicated that he will make the final decision sometime after the official visit to Florida State.
