HILTON HEAD ISLAND: First round leader Justin Thomas Friday didn’t challenge his course record tying 61 from round one of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, but he was still good enough to hold on to the lead going into the weekend as he seeks to end a three year winless streak.
Thomas didn’t have the putter going like he did on Thursday when he rolled in putt after putt for 11 birdies. Friday his card showed four birdies and two bogeys as he recorded his seventh straight round in the sixties at Harbour Town. He did nail a 22-foot birdie putt on the par five 15th.
Si Woo Kim of South Korea had the days best round with a 64 and is tied for second with Russell Henley at ten under. Henley had a three under 68 following his 64 from Thursday.
Wofford grad Andrew Novak is T4 at nine under with Tommy Fleetwood after a six under 65 matching his low round of the season. Fleetwood had a 66.
World #1 and defending champ Scott Scheffler slipped to a one-under 70 on Friday after a 64 Thursday. He is tied for sixth at eight under par.
Bluffton resident Brian Campbell had a 70 on Friday and is T13 at six under. Lucas Glover also had a one under 70 and is T31 at minus four. And Clemson’s Jacob Bridgeman turned in a 69 Friday and is two under par and T46.
Thomas and Woo Kim will form the final pairing of round three and will tee off at 2:00 PM.
