From the short tracks to #Darlington, Josh Berry knows his racing history (AUDIO)

Josh Berry’s humble racing roots started in places like Florence and Myrtle Beach, so that makes the driver of the #4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing the perfect spokesperson for this year’s throwback event at Darlington Raceway. You see, the “Lady in Black” is honoring the sport’s “grass roots” this year over Mother’s Day weekend.

The unassuming 33-year-old looks more like a banker than a NASCAR driver, and that is not far off, as he worked as a teller prior to his racing career taking off.

On Tuesday, Berry and his crew chief, Rodney Childers, were at the South Carolina governor’s mansion in Columbia to unveil his throwback paint scheme for this year’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. Berry threw his on-track boss a curve ball with the racecar, which is an homage to Childers’ late model days. Childers had to fight back tears as the car was unveiled, saying that “this scheme means the world to me.”

NASCAR’s official “Throwback Weekend” at Darlington takes place May 10th through the 12th. Tickets are available at daringtonraceway.com.
