Gary Gilmore is set for his final season at the helm of the Coastal baseball team

Friday will be the first of many lasts for Coastal Carolina Hall of Fame baseball coach Gary Gilmore. In an interview on SportsTalk following the conclusion of the 2023 season, Gilmore announced 2024 will be his final season in the dugout of his alma mater. So, Friday’s game against George Mason will be the final season opener for Gilmore who is going into his 29th season with the Chants.

Gilmore has won over 1300 games and a National Championship in his 34 seasons as a college coach. Gilmore’s story, of course, is about more than baseball. He has carried on a well-publicized fight against Stage 4 pancreatic cancer since 2020. So far, Gilmore has been able to continue his duties on the field without any restrictions.

The Chants are considered the favorites in the Sun Belt Conference this season and are ranked in all the pre-season polls. They will feature two of the top players in the nation in catcher Cadine Bodine and DH Derek Bender.

Wednesday night, Gilmore joined us on SportsTalk for his final pre-season interview.
