The Coastal Carolina football program doesn’t have a lot of familiarity with the Atlantic Coast Conference. As a matter of fact, this Saturday’s game against Virginia will be just the second time the Chanticleers have faced a member of the ACC. However, unlike the matchup with Clemson in 2009, this contest will take place on the “Surf Turf.”
“In the building here, it’s next team up,” CCU HC Tim Beck said on Wednesday. “If you think we’re running around, oh wow, this is so cool; ACC’s coming. Whoever the next game is really. Our work schedule and workflow is exactly the same as it was against William & Mary. You don’t change routines.”
And while the Coastal football team can’t let itself get caught up in the hoopla surrounding this week’s game with the Cavaliers, Beck concedes it’s a little different for the university and the community.
“For Conway and the school, I think there’s a lot of excitement. I think it’s a great venue. Very rich tradition program coming in. It’s going to be something, I think, that hasn’t been seen here before.”
The Chanticleers have hosted just one P4 opponent in program history, and that was a 49-22 CCU blowout of Kansas in 2021, capping off a three-game series sweep of the Jayhawks. Of course, Coastal welcomed BYU to Conway in 2020. That Saturday featured ESPN’s popular pregame show, College Gameday, and a 22-17 victory over the Cougars.
