ATLANTA, GA — Coastal Carolina knew it had a safety net at the end of the season when the 2024 football schedule was released earlier this year. And the Chanticleers took full advantage of that insurance on Saturday at Georgia State.
In a series in which the road team has won all eight games, the Chanticleers rolled past the Panthers 48-27 to wrap up the regular season at 6-6 and reach bowl eligibility for a fifth consecutive year. Georgia State, which concludes the year at 3-9, has been outscored by CCU 177 to 85 in the four meetings in downtown Atlanta.
Game Details Courtesy of CCU Media Relations: Coastal Carolina football earned bowl eligibility with a 48-27 victory over Georgia State on Saturday at Center Parc Stadium. With the win, CCU improved to 6-6 (3-5 Sun Belt), while GSU moved to 3-9 (1-7).
Ethan Vasko tossed three touchdown passes and added one on the ground as part of a 13-of-17 passing performance to help the Chants close the regular season with the road victory.
Also, on the offensive side of the ball, Senika McKie shined with two touchdowns on five receptions for 81 yards. Christian Washington added 124 rushing yards on 20 carries with a touchdown of his own.
On defense, Matthew McDoom was a menace from the start with two interceptions, while Tobias Fletcher also picked off two passes, one of which he returned 39 yards for a touchdown. Barry Brown led the Chanticleers with nine solo tackles.
All told, CCU’s defense had four interceptions, a forced fumble, and five sacks.
With the win, Coastal finished the regular season .500 or better on the road for the fifth straight season.
The Chants will learn their bowl destination on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024.
