Tryston McCladdie homered and drove in four runs to spearhead Clemson’s 11-1 (7 innings) rout of The Citadel and complete a two-game sweep at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Wednesday.

Clemson ambushed the Bulldogs for six first-inning runs on four singles, a double, and three walks. The fourth-ranked Tigers had all but sewn up a sweep of the midweek series before the fans were comfortably in their seats.

McCladdie continued the onlsaught with a three-run homer in the third before capping his big day with an RBI single in the seventh, triggering the ten-run rule.

Dominic Listi followed McCladdie’s long ball with a solo shot to right-center to give Clemson a nine-run lead. Sophomore catcher Luke Gaffney racked up three hits and scored twice, helping the Tigers start a new winning streak heading into their second conference series.

Five Clemson pitchers combined to limit The Citadel to one run on four singles. Chance Fitzgerald (2-0) picked up the win in relief of Noah Samol. Fitzgerald surrendered a run but retired eight of the ten batters he faced.

Clemson (21-2, 2-1) continues its homestand when no. 11 Wake Forest (18-4, 6-0) visits Doug Kingsmore Stadium for a three-game series this weekend. First pitch between the Tigers and the Deacons is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday.
