Clemson’s lineup jumped on Liberty pitching early and never looked back in a dominant 8-2 victory at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Wednesday.

The fifth-ranked Tigers got two aboard ahead of Josh Paino in the first inning and the senior slugger made the Flames pay, launching the second pitch he saw into the bleachers in left for a three-run homer. It was Paino’s fourth home run of the season, breaking a tie with Jarren Purify for the team lead. Luke Gaffney added a solo shot in the sixth to extend the lead.

Purify (1-1, four walks), Dominic Listi, Cam Cannarella and Tristan Bissetta also drove in runs for the Tigers.

Liberty was never in the game as seven Tigers’ pitchers combined to hold the Flames to two runs on five hits.

Clemson (17-1) will head into conference play on a fifteen-game winning streak. The Tigers’ first ACC opponent, Notre Dame, won both of its midweek games at Winthrop after suffering through a sweep at the hands of Wake Forest in its first conference series.

The Tigers and the Irish will open their three-game set from Doug Kingsmore Stadium at 4 p.m., Friday.
