McCladdie powers Clemson to 7-6 win over Miami as Tigers break five-game losing streak (AUDIO)

Clemson 7-Miami 6 Game Summary

  • Tryston McCladdie hit his second homer of the night in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and give Clemson a lead it would not relinquish. McCladdie’s heroics came with two away and on the first pitch he saw from reliever TJ Coats.
  • Miami threatened in the eighth with a one out double off of Danny Nelson. But Nelson bounced back with a pair of strikeouts to end the inning.
  • Justin LeGuernic replaced Nelson to start the top of the ninth, and he retired the Hurricanes in order with a strikeout, a fly to right and a pop to short.
  • Miami led 1-0 after a half inning, but Nate Savoie turned things around with a two run homer in the bottom of the first, his 10th roundtripper of the season.
  • The Canes went back on top with a three run fourth dining, but Clemson responded with two runs on an RBI single by Luke Gaffney and a sacrifice fly Bryce Clavon for a 4-4 tie.
  • In the fifth, McCladdie launched his first homer of the night, a two run shot to left center, and the Tigers retook the lead at 6-4.
  • Miami tied the game in the top of the seventh with a single, a double and a groundout to short, followed by an RBI double to right center.
  • Michael Sharman started for Clemson and went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Eston Simpson worked the next two innings and gave up one run on one hit. Nelson (1-2) also went two innings and allowed one run on three hits. LeGuernic worked a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the season.
  • McCladdie led the offense with those two homers and a double, along with three RBIs.
  • Clemson is 19-9 overall and 2-6 in the ACC. Miami is 20-6 and 3-5. The rubber game of the series will be Saturday afternoon, with first pitch set for 3:00 PM.
