Arkansas 22 – Gamecocks 6 Game Summary

  • Fourth-ranked Arkansas destroyed everything in its path in a dominant 22-6 win over South Carolina at Founders Park, Friday.
  • The Razorbacks wasted little time in flexing its offensive muscle, unloading on Gamecocks righthander Josh Gunther for four runs in the first, three in the second and two more in the third before head coach Paul Mainieri pulled the plug on his starter.
  • Arkansas gave the bullpen more of the same, sticking Bradley Hodges and Parker Marlatt for four runs, apiece in an eight-run fourth inning.
  • The Gamecocks (12-11, 0-4) punched back with a pair of two-run homers in fourth, the first from KJ Scobey and the second from Luke Yuhasz. Jake Randolph added a two-run home run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the ten-run rule from putting an end to the game.
  • The Razorbacks teed off all night long, hitting long balls in the first, second (two), third, fifth and sixth innings.
  • Arkansas also benefited from 12 walks and three hit batters. Twenty-nine Razorbacks reached base via hit, base on balls, hit-by-pitch or error.
  • There were nine home runs hit, six by Arkansas and three by the Gamecocks.
  • In its last fourteen conference games, dating back to last season, USC is 1-13 including lopsided losses to Florida (22-3, May 3), Auburn (24-2, May 8) and Arkansas (22-6). The modern-day Gamecocks record for runs surrendered came in a 30-7 loss to the Razorbacks in 1997.
  • South Carolina, still in search of its first conference win of the season, will host Arkansas in Game 2 of the series at 4 p.m., Saturday.
