Another poor offensive performance on the road. Another long flight home. Another open week. Another offensive assistant coach fired by South Carolina coach Shane Beamer. USC issued the official release Sunday afternoon.
University of South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer announced today that he has relieved offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Shula of his duties, effective immediately.
The Gamecocks (3-6, 1-6 SEC) have an open date this week before playing at No. 3 Texas A&M on November 15.
TheBigSpur and 247Sports first reported Sunday that Beamer had fired his first year offensive coordinator Mike Shula on the heels of Saturday night’s 30-14 loss at Ole Miss. The Gamecocks managed just 230 total yards of offense and are averaging 294 yards and 19.7 points per game this season.
Following the loss at LSU in October, Beamer said he decided on the flight home to fire offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley, and that was announced later that Sunday with the Gamecocks going into their first open week.
After last night’s loss, Beamer said more changes could be made to the offensive staff.
Shula joined Beamer’s staff as an offensive analyst prior to the 2024 season. He assumed the jobs of offensive coordinator and play caller after the regular season with Dowell Loggains became the head coach at Appalachian State. He called plays for ten games before the decision was made to let him go.
Shula signed a three-year contract on December 17th, 2024 that paid him a base salary of $1.1 million per season. Per his contract regarding termination without cause: “Coach shall be paid liquidated damages in an amount equal to Coach’s Base Salary for the remaining term of the Employment Agreement, subject to Coach’s duty to mitigate by seeking other employment.” That puts the Gamecocks on the hook for slightly more than $2.2 million to satisfy the rest of this season and the remaining two years of the Shula contract.
Beamer will meet with the media at 5:00 PM today for his weekly conference call.
I’m sorry if a team you are playing against can’t score, they can’t win, so when is USC going to get help from their Defensive back field
