When running down a list of the greatest high school basketball coaches in South Carolina history, it doesn’t take long for Tim Whipple’s name to pop up. The long-time Irmo varsity boys basketball coach retired in 2024, after spending 43 years on the bench. He finished his stellar career with 848 wins, the 2nd most in SC history, and six state titles.
Earlier this week it was announced that Whipple will be inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in June. On Thursday, Whipple dropped by SportsTalk to discuss his career and also look forward to the enshrinement ceremony in South Dakota later this summer.
