DEATH VALLEY: Hurricane Helene brought destruction and disorder to South Carolina Thursday and Friday, but that didn’t stop Clemson fans from trekking in full force to Death Valley Saturday night for the Homecoming battle with Stanford. The Tigers gave their fans plenty to cheer about with a big play offense and an opportunistic defense in a 40-14 victory over the Cardinal.

The Tigers won the second half 23-7 as they improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC with their 100th Homecoming victory. For head coach Dabo Swinney, the win was his 100th at Death Valley and his 173rd overall tying him with Bobby Bowden for the most wins as an ACC coach. Ironically, Swinney can break that reord next week at Florida State.

Cade Klubnik continued his marvelous play since the Georgia game throwing four touchdown passes. He completed 15 of 31 passes for 255 yards with one interceptions and finished with a QB rating of 153.6. Klubnik had touchdown throws of 43 and 34 yards, and another completion of 70 yards. He averaged 17 yards per completion.

Klubnik also ran for a 34-yard score on the Tigers’ third play of the game for the Tigers’ longest run of the night. How explosive was the Clemson offense? The Tigers had five possessions end with touchdowns and they used a total of 18 plays for thoses scores.

The Clemson defense also had several big moments when it appeared the Cardinal might reach the end zone. The Tigers stopped Stanford without points three times inside the red zone when the game was still in the balance. They came up with two interceptions and a fourth down stop. The also stoppped the Cardiinal on fourth down two other times. The Tigers also rolled ulp four sacks and nine tackles for loss for the night.

The Clemson secondary did a fantastic job against Stanford’s acclaimed receiver Elic Ayamanor rendering him as a non-factor for most of the game except for his one touchdown catch just before halftime.
