USC football coach Shane Beamer routinely issues a “Welcome Home” alert on X when he lands a commitment from a high school prospect or college transfer. With defensive end Gilbur Edmond, the “Welcome Home” carried a literal meaning.
Edmond will go down in the history books at USC as the first Gamecock to leave the program via the NCAA Transfer Portal only to return to the Gamecocks through the same process.
Edmond signed with the Gamecocks during the Will Muschamp administration. He was with the Gamecocks from 2020-2022 and eventually developed into a starter as an edge rusher. He totaled 44 tackles and two sacks in 21 games over his three years in Columbia. He spent the 2023 season in Tallahassee where he had 23 tackles and a sack in 14 games as a reserve.
Edmond rejoined the Gamecocks in January, and Thursday he talked one-on-one with SportsTalk about being back where it all started.
