As far as Southern dishes go, Duke’s mayonnaise is revered as the standard condiment for so many things we’ll enjoy this Thanksgiving. Especially those turkey sandwiches that will be stuffed into the cooler for your tailgate on Saturday. Coastal Carolina football is also hoping to put some Dukes in their place as the Chanticleers host #24–James Madison at 3:30pm on Saturday, with the Sun Belt Conference’s East Division championship on the line.
A win at home will propel CCU into its second consecutive conference title game, where the Chanticleers will meet West Division champ Troy in a rematch of last year’s SBC championship, won by the Trojans 45-26.
Since JMU is ineligible to compete for the league crown due to its transition from FCS to FBS, a loss would not take Coastal out of the running. Should Georgia Southern defeat Appalachian State on Saturday, CCU would represent the East against Troy, as the Chanticleers hold the tiebreaker over the Mountaineers.
On Wednesday, CCU head coach Tim Beck met with the media to breakdown Saturday’s matchup with James Madison and also discuss his team’s Thanksgiving plans, which might just include a leftover turkey sandwich or two.
