The marriage of Boston College football and the ACC appeared to be a perfect match early on for the Eagles. BC won 47 games in its first five years in the league after bolting from the Big East in 2005. However, the honeymoon period cooled off quickly, with Boston College failing to win more than seven games since the 2010 season. The last four years have been particularly tough for head coach Jeff Hafley and the Eagles, which includes a 3-9 mark in 2022.
To turn things around, Hefley will need improvement from a defense that ranked next to last in the ACC last season, allowing thirty points per game and giving up nearly 380 yards per outing. Their offense wasn’t much better, as the Eagles could only muster 18 points and 380 yards a contest. But the Eagles return an experienced offensive line and miss Clemson, North Carolina, and NC State in their 2023 ACC slate, so the foundation for improvement is certainly there.
