#Clemson clobbers Georgia 8-1 behind Amick’s big night (AUDIO)

Billy Amick feasted at the plate in Athens, Tuesday (Clemson Athletics)

Clemson and Georgia took to the field in Athens right around supper time, Tuesday, with the first pitch having been delivered at 7:02 p.m. Billy Amick certainly brought his appetite, as the Clemson DH made a meal out of Bulldogs pitching and served up a career night in the Tigers’ 8-1 victory at Foley Field.

Amick finished 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs. Amick’s homer came with two outs and two runners on in the fourth inning to put Clemson ahead 3-1. The Tigers added four runs in the fifth to build a 7-1 lead and put the game on ice.

While Amick was chewing up Georgia’s hurlers, Clemson’s pitching staff was starving the Dawgs, surrendering just five hits and two walks. Six Tigers relievers combined for 7.1 shutout innings. Willie Weiss (2-0) fanned the only batter he faced to pick up the victory and BJ Bailey lowered his ERA to 1.17 after holding Georgia (18-15) scoreless over 1.2 innings.

Clemson (20-14) returns to ACC play with a home series against Notre Dame starting Friday. First pitch between the Tigers and the Irish is set for 8 p.m. Following the three-game set with Notre Dame, Clemson and Georgia will get together for a rematch at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on April 18.
