#STRecruiting: DT Champ Thompson commits to #Clemson

Champ Thompson

Clemson is used to winning championships. Late Saturday night, Dabo Swinney won the champ of Norcross, GA, better known as DT Champ Thompson (6-3 280). Thompson visited Clemson for the junior day Saturday and later put out on social media that he was now a Clemson commitment.

Thompson sits among the nation’s elite when it comes to recruiting defensive tackles. Some of his other offers included USC, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida State, Alabama, Michigan, Auburn, Miami, North Carolina, Penn State, Notre Dame and, most recently, Colorado.

Thompson narrowed his list to Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Florida State, Penn State and Miami before settling on the Tigers who offered him last summer at camp. He also visited Clemson during the season for the NC State and Syracuse games. Georgia also had him in for two games during the season. He visited Alabama last summer.

Thompson, whose father was an offensive tackle at Tennessee and in the NFL, was considered by at least one recruiting service a Georgia lean earlier in the recruiting process.

Last season, with 11 games reported, Thompson totaled 38 tackles with 7 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. He’s the fourth commitment for Clemson for the 2024 class.
