Shane Beamer Sunday Night Conference Call (AUDIO) #Gamecocks

DQ Smith and the secondary did their job against the Tennessee receivers (Chris Gillespie)

The USC offense was spectacular in Saturday night’s win over 5th ranked Tennessee scoring touchdowns on nine of ten possessions that weren’t tied to the end of a half. It was one of the greatest offensive performances in Gamecock history, and it was surprising considering how the offense has struggled under the direction of Marcus Satterfield.

On social media after the game, some Gamecock fans pushed the argument that Satterfield actually did not call the plays, but rather done by a committee of others. Asked to address that on his Sunday night conference call, head coach Shane Beamer scoffed at the notion, saying not only did Satterfield build the gameplan during the week, but he also called every play.

Beamer was felt the offense, led by quarterback Spencer Rattler, was about as good as it could possibly be. He also pointed out the defense played very well against a powerful offense, giving up yards but not huge plays down the field. He said the plan was to let the defensive backs go one-on-one on an island with the Tennessee receivers, and he felt they won more battles than they lost and kept the Vols in front of them.

Beamer said there no new major injuries coming out of the game, and he called running backs Marshawn Lloyd and Christian Beal-Smith as questionable for this Saturday’s game at Clemson.
