#STRecruiting Notebook 7-4

USC is in the top 10 with DT Jordan Hall of Jacksonville. The others are Oregon, LSU, Auburn, Southern Cal, Florida, Georga, Florida State and Ohio State. Hall did not make any official visits in June, but he did make an unofficial visit to USC the last weekend of the month. He also visited the Gamecocks in January and March. He’s also made stops at Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Miami, Florida, Florida State, UCF and Auburn. Hall is a teammate of USC linebacker commitment Grayson Howard.

USC is in the final five with WR Carmelo Taylor of Roanoke along with Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Penn State and Maryland. He took official visits to USC, Penn State and Virginia Tech in June.

Clemson is in top six with RB Christopher Johnson of Fort Lauderdale along with Miami, Florida State, Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Johnson made an unofficial visit with the Tigers June 9th and worked out in their camp. He has not yet been offered by Clemson.

Clemson has two targets scheduled for announcements this week. DE Keldric Faulk of Highland Home, AL will reveal his decision Tuesday from Clemson, Auburn, Florida and Florida State. And DT Peter Woods of Alabaster, AL is set to announce Friday with Clemson, Florida, Alabama and Oklahoma the finalists.

A former Tiger target, DT Darron Reed of Columbus, GA, announced a commitment to LSU Monday afternoon.

USC and Clemson target DT TJ Searcy committed to Florida.

The next scheduled announcement for a USC target is QB Dylan Lonergan on July 12th. He’s also considering Stanford and Alabama. Another Gamecock target, OT Oluwatosin Babalade, has set July 31st for his announcement. . He made official visits to USC, North Carolina, Ohio State Rutgers and Maryland.

WR Tyler Williams (6-3 180) of Lakeland, FL set September 27th for his commitment announcement. Williams has USC, Clemson, Ole Miss, Georgia and Texas A&M

National basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw of On3, citing multiple sources “close to the situation,” reported Sunday that 2023 6-9 standout GG Jackson of Ridge View, who committed to North Carolina in April, will graduate early and end up at USC, Oregon or in the G-League. Shaw suggested in his story Jackson will spend a year at USC before going into the 2023 NBA Draft. Shaw reported North Carolina is out of scholarships for the 2022 class thus forcing Jackson to go in another direction. Jackson last week was named the MVP of the Top 100 Camp.

Jackson’s father is a preacher, and Sunday night we reached out Greg Jackson for a response to the report. He responded with a message containing a Bible verse:

USC target LB Jaden Robinson was offered by Florida.

2024 DT Omar White of Leesburg, GA has Clemson in his top 10 along with Oregon, Florida State, Michigan state, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia and Jackson State.

2024 DT Champ Thompson of Norcross, GA, who has USC and Clemson offers, will name a top ten soon.

Clemson 2024 QB target DJ Lagway was offered by Florida.

Former Clemson RB Demarkcus Bowman, who left the Tigers for Florida, is now headed to UCF. And another former Clemson RB, Lyn-J Dixon, who transferred to West Virginia in the offseason, is back in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

USC target OL Jatavius Shivers of Villa Rica, GA decommitted from Vanderbilt Saturday. He committed to the Commodores after his official visit there the weekend of June 17th. The next weekend he was at USC unofficially for the Carolina Cookout. He said after that visit he planned to return to USC for an official visit. He also wants to visit Florida State and Georgia Tech. He’s also had Ole Miss on his short list.

In what was no surprise at all Saturday, Dorman OT DJ Geth announced a commitment to North Carolina over USC. Geth took official visits to both, and while he spoke highly of the Gamecocks, they were not able to overcome the legacy status of Geth with the Tar Heels. Both of his parents are UNC grads and his dad played basketball there.

USC IS in the top six with SAF Vicari Swain of Carrollton, GA. The others are Maryland, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Duke and Georgia Tech. He has taken official visits to USC, Vanderbilt and Maryland.

Clemson 2024 QB target DJ Lagway was offered by Florida.

Dutch Fork RB Jarvis Green named a top eight of James Madison, Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee State, Wofford, Memphis, Appalachian State, Charlotte and Georgia State.

USC target DE Tyree Weathersby of Douglasville, GA committed to Tennessee Friday night. That was his only official visit in June, though he has said he will take others this season. USC, Kentucky and Mississippi State are the others on his short list.

USC target WR London Humphreys of Nashville committed to Vanderbilt.

One-time USC target LB Semaj Bridgeman of Philadelphia committed to Michigan.

One-time USC and Clemson target WR Christian Hamilton of Harrisburg NC committed to North Carolina.

OT Tyree Adams of New Orleans, who was offered by USC, is down to Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia and Florida.

Northwestern WR Elijah Caldwell committed to West Virginia.

  1. Which USC for GG Jackson? Carolina or Southern Cal….I would’ve assumed Carolina, except that the other team mentioned was a PAC-12 school

    1. On this site, as it should be for every site that covers South Carolina, USC refers to the Gamecocks. Always has, always will. Southern Cal is the school on the West Coast.
