Chad Holbrook has coached some very good baseball teams throughout his career, and it’s possible he’ll be coaching another this season in the Lowcountry. Now entering his fifth year in charge of the College of Charleston program, Holbrook feels as if he’s got a “very good team” and the strength may lie in its pitching staff. The College will return its weekend rotation from last year, meaning the Cougars could field the best, or at least the deepest, staff Holbrook has coached in Charleston. A season ago, CofC was 27-25 overall and 12-12 in the CAA.
Holbrook was a guest of SportsTalk on Thursday to look forward to the start of the season next weekend as the Cougars host Wagner in a three-game series on Patriots Point. He also opened up about his days at South Carolina, including the consecutive World Series appearances with the Gamecocks. Adding that he remains very close with many of the players from those USC teams and that he holds those trips to Omaha, “near and dear to his heart.” He also allowed himself an opportunity to brag on the progress of his two baseball playing sons and the amazing story of Reese Holbrook’s journey to Chapel Hill.
