#Clemson football assistants meet the media (AUDIO)

For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Clemson football was able to host an in-person media event. On Tuesday, the program held its “Media Outing and Olympics” at the Allen N. Reeves football complex. With the weather putting a damper on the proposed Olympic games of mini golf, whiffle ball, and 3-on-3 hoops, the Clemson staff pivoted to a new set of events including “Closest to the Pin” on the indoor golf simulator, bowling, and a “Pop-A-Shot” tournament.

Prior to the media breaking a sweat in the friendly competition, the Clemson football assistants reflected on the offseason and started to gaze ahead to fall camp.

Offensive coordinator Tony Elliott held court for over thirty minutes, discussing life after Trevor Lawrence. Elliott stressed that DJ Uiagalelei is ready to lead the Tigers’ offense, noting that he has worked “his butt off” during the offseason. He also elaborated on how difficult last season was considering the pitfalls of Covid-19, though he did reflect on a silver-lining of the pandemic, family time. Elliott also believes that Clemson is, “well positioned to navigate the new waters” of N.I.L. legislation.

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables touched on his contract extension which was approved by the Clemson board of trustees last week. He was also very honest about the disappointment his unit felt following last year’s 49-28 loss to Ohio State in the CFP semifinals at the Sugar Bowl.
