Dabo Swinney expects Charlotte to present his defensive front, including Nyles Pinckney, with some challenges (Travis Bell/SIDELINE CAROLINA)

Alabama was in the state last week, but if you didn’t know Clemson’s opponent this week, you’d swear Dabo Swinney was talking Tuesday about the Crimson Tide coming to Death Valley Saturday and not the Charlotte 49ers. Swinney heaped on the praise for the Conference-USA opponent which is a 42 point underdog in the first ever meeting between the programs. He is fearful of the 49er offense which he said presents multiple schemes and a great running game. And he worries about the 49er defense which, he said has a great defensive end in Alex Highsmith who has 5.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks this season.

Other notes from Swinney’s press conference:

  • Offensive line has been outstanding, super physical, bodies all over the ground, not a lot of busts.
  • Freshman LB Bryton Constantin retore his ACL during rehab work and will have to have another surgery.
  • Not all of Lawrence’s 5 interceptions are on him, two are on the receivers, but he’s a confident player, wants him to stay within the system and learn from it.
  • Disney is at Clemson and will be shooting scenes for a movie at halftime, and they are asking the fans to stay in their seats to be a part of this.
