Rodney Williams is going out a winner again. Clemson’s all-time winningest quarterback at the time of his graduation, Williams won his final game in the 1988 Citrus Bowl against Oklahoma. And in his final game as the analyst on the Clemson football network, Williams joined Don Munson in describing the Tigers’ win over Alabama in the national championship game. Sources confirmed Tuesday night Williams is retiring from the broadcast booth after five seasons, the last four ending with playoff appearances, including two national titles.

Sources also confirmed that former Clemson sports information director Tim Bourret will replace Williams in the booth. Bourret, who is in the COSIDA Hall of Fame, retired from his Clemson job last summer though he continued to work with the football and basketball broadcasts. He’s been a part of over 1000 basketball broadcasts. He has also been working with The Golf Channel/NBC Sports on coverage of the PGA Tour.

Williams played under Danny Ford and led the Tigers to 32 victories in his four seasons. Ford considered Williams one of the toughest players he ever coached. Williams, an Irmo High graduate, played with a passion for the game and his school, and he carried that passion into the broadcast booth.
