Will Muschamp addresses the media Thursday on the eve of fall camp

Will Muschamp officially kicked off his fourth pre-season as football coach at USC Thursday with a press conference at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks reported for camp Thursday and will hold their first practice Friday morning. They will open their season August 31st against North Carolina in Charlotte.

Some of Muschamp’s key comments:

Muschamp said by all accounts, they had the best summer workouts since he’s been here.

Muschamp said DL Jaquaze Sorrells is still working thru academic issues and he will update as soon as possible.

Keir Thomas and JJ Enagbare will be limited early in practice due to recent medical procedures.

Muschamp said they have to be more consistent at linebacker and play better at safety. They need to be better down the middle on defense.

Muschamp said he’s met new university president Caslen, likes him, he has a great passion for athletics, and in response to question about Caslen saying any USC victory over Clemson will be rewarded with an ice cream party, Muschamp responded, “I like chocolate chip.”

Muschamp confirms they are appealing for immediate eligibility for tight end transfer Nick Muse, and he’s very impressed with Muse, both his skills and his leadership abilities.

Muschamp said AJ Turner still plans to play running back and corner.
