DJ Uiagalelei

The quarterback considered by many analysts as the best in the 2020 class, DJ Uiagalelei of Bellflower, CA make his official visit to Oregon over the weekend with his family. The pictures tweeted by Uiagalelei and his family indicated the Ducks came at him full bore, including bringing back two of their most famous quarterbacks to meet him during the spring game, Jeremiah Masoli and Marcus Mariota. Many of the same national analysts have pegged Uiagalelei for Clemson, but his feelings on his future plans are now cloudy.

“I had a good time. That was like a dream come true to meet those two,” Uiagalelei said. “Those are my two favorite quarterbacks. That was like a dream come true for me to meet them and talk to them. That was really cool.”

Uiagalelei also spent a lot of time with the Oregon offensive staff. And his thoughts about his feelings for the Ducks ring similar to things he said about Clemson following his visits there.

“The coaching staff and Coach (quarterbacks coach Marcus) Arroyo. It feels like family over there,” Uiagalelei said. “I like them a lot. It’s closer to home, and I know a lot of people at Oregon. One of my former receivers is there. I know the running backs. They are good friends. I know a lot of the people there.”

Uiagalelei now faces the challenge of deciding on Clemson or Oregon. He also is a big-time baseball prospect and both will let him play that sport. Of course, he could be a high enough draft pick this summer he never shows up in college, but that’s down the road. For now his challenge is deciding whether to go cross-country to run Clemson’s offense or up the Pacific Coast to lead the Ducks.

“We just want to go and sit back and weigh it out and see what we want to do,” he said. “We want to think about it and see what the options are and weigh out the pros and cons with each school and all of the different schools. And then, eventually, I will make a decision.”

And a previously reported announcement date of May 5th, Uiagalelei said, also is not definite at this point.

“I am going to announce on Twitter the date that I want to announce,” he said. “I will announce the date on Twitter, but it will probably be sometime in May. But I don’t have a definite date, yet.”

So, is there any favorite at this point?

“It’s still up in the air. I am still not sure,” Uiagalelei said. “I kind of have an idea of where I want to a little bit, but still not sure yet.”
