#STRecruiting: Two #Clemson OL targets set to announce this week

Mitchell Mayes

Clemson has three offensive linemen committed for the 2020 class and the Tigers could add two more this week.  Mitchell Mayes (6-4 305) of Raleigh tweeted earlier today he’ll have some “news” tonight at 7:00 PM on Twitter, and Bryn Tucker (6-5 310) of Knoxville will announce his commitment decision on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.

Mayes is coming off a visit to Clemson over the weekend.  He also visited during last season and he said Sunday afternoon following this most recent visit that he experienced and saw a lot of good things with the Tigers this time.

“It was a great time,” Mayes said. “I watched practice and stayed the night with a couple of players. I ate with some of the team and then during the junior day I ate with some of the guys and coaches. After that, I hung out at the facilities, all the games and stuff and the nap room. And then Jackson Carman came and picked me up and I spent the night with those guys and we had a great time. And then this morning (Sunday), Coach Caldwell picked me up and we toured little bit of the campus I had not toured and then I left.”

Mayes was particularly interested Saturday at practice in watching the offensive line work and Caldwell coach.

“Offensive line was getting after it practice,” he said. “Coach Caldwell is a very intense coach and coaches well. They were doing a great job and they had a great practice. He’s a great coach. He coaches all of the interior and outside guys. He’s a phenomenal coach.”

Mayes said he also got some one-on-one time with head coach Dabo Swinney and got a clear message from him.

“Coach Swinney told me yesterday (Saturday), just making sure every is good with me and he’s just letting me know that whenever I’m ready he’s ready for me to be a Clemson Tiger,” he said.  “Coach Caldwell repeated the same thing. He always treats me well. We talked about life outside of football at Clemson and how I would fit in both ways.”

Mayes also has visited Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and NC State and is scheduled to visit Alabama March 30th.  He said he’s being recruited for tackle but can also play guard.
