Kip Bouknight fires a pitch during his illustrious career at USC (Post & Courier)

The USC baseball team hosts Auburn Friday night to open another big SEC weekend series. Adding to the excitement at Founders Park Friday night will be the pre-game ceremony when the program will retire the jersey #14 worn by all-time great pitcher Kip Bouknight. This will mark the third such retirement in the program history joining those of coach Ray Tanner and pitcher Earl Bass.

Bouknight owns school career records for innings pitched, strikeout, games won and games started. He had 57 career starts and a career record of 45-12. Those 45 wins tie him with Jeff Brantley for the all-time SEC mark.

Bouknight went 17-1 in 2000 and was named the National Player of the Year, SEC Pitcher of the Year and SEC Male Athlete of the Year. He was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
