The annual South Carolina High School Football Coaches Clinic is taking place this weekend in Myrtle Beach. Part of the festivities was the introduction of the two coaching staffs for the Touchstone Energy North-South Game this December at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
North Carolina beat South Carolina in every phase of the game in winning Saturday’s 81st annual Shrine Bowl game 55-24 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg. It’s the third straight victory for the Tarheels, their first three game winning streak in the series since 1949-51. SC leads the series 44-33-4.
The North All Stars ran their winning streak to three in the Touchstone Energy Bowl Saturday afternoon defeating the South All Stars 24-12 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. And at halftime Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner was named Mr. Football in South Carolina for 2017.
Practices continue in Myrtle Beach for Saturday’s Touchstone Energy North-South All Star game. The teams have been working out twice per day. The North team is being lead by Broome coach Jet Turner who gave us a break down on the group he’s working with.
Monday was day one of practice for the Touchstone Energy North-South Game in Myrtle Beach. The squads went thru two practices in perfect weather in preparation for Saturday’s 12:30 PM kickoff at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The North won a defensive battle last season 21-14.
It’s the Weekend of Champions in South Carolina with five state titles at stake. Friday night at Benedict Lamar vs Baptist Hill in 1A and Abbeville vs Bamberg-Ehrhardt in 2A. Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium Dillon vs Chapman in 3A, South Pointe vs Hartsville in 4A and Dutch Fork vs Dorman in 5A.
The annual Palmetto Champions Award banquet was held Thursday night in Columbia. The event honors the top senior backs, linemen and specialists along with head coaches from the upper and lower state as voted on by the South Carolina football coaches association. And from those upper and lower state winners, one statewide winner is chosen.
23 players and 10 coaches have been chosen by the South Carolina football coaches association as Palmetto Champions and will be recognized at a banquet in Columbia November 30th. That night, the overall statewide winners for each class will be announced.
The regular season ended Friday night with big matchups related to regional titles, playoff positioning and just good old-fashion rivalries.
