CB Cam Smith of Westwood tweeted over the weekend that he had made his college decision. However, he did not tweet where he is going. He’s saving that news for August 17th following his team’s season opener against Lugoff-Elgin.
Smith narrowed his decision to USC, Georgia and Tennessee. He camped last month at USC and Georgia and he took a visit to Tennessee. He made a return trip to USC last week with his parents.
Smith’s recruiting didn’t take off until the summer camp season. After coaches got the chance to watch him in action, especially in man coverage, the offers started to roll in. With that came the pressure of recruiting, and that’s why he’s glad it’s over.
“It feels great to get the process over. It’s been great to end the process. Maybe it just started to get annoying,” Smith said adding he has told the winning staff of his plans. “They were not shocked but I could tell they got excited about it when I told them.”
Smith said for the winning program, there were a few things that stood out to him.
“The atmosphere and the fans and the new facilities,” he said. “I made sure there wasn’t a lot of depth above me so I could come in and try and play as a freshman.”
Smith last season, playing in Maryland, had 61 tackles and 3 interceptions.
