USC and Clemson have been in contention for DL Travon Walker of Thomaston, GA and Tuesday he plans to announce his commitment. Georgia, Auburn and Alabama are the other three on his list. His only official visit was to USC in early June and he is a cousin of the Gamecocks’ Wonnum brothers. Travaris Robinson and Mike Peterson have been recruiting him for the Gamecocks. He also said Clemson has been hard on him with recruiter Todd Bates in regular contact. But Georgia also has been strong on him throughout and the Bulldogs have been hot on the recruiting trail in-state in recent weeks.
OL Will Putnam of Tampa named a top five of Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn and Florida.
One time Clemson target DB Cam’Ron Kelly of Chesapeake, VA decommitted from Virginia Tech over the weekend. Clemson was on his short list before he committed and he also had an offer from USC.
First Baptist RB Michel Dukes, who is also a basketball prospect, landed his first basketball offer from IUPUI. Dukes had planned to focus on football in college but said Sunday he’s not sure about that now. He actually returned to his AAU team this summer after originally planning to skip the travel season. Dukes did take an unofficial football visit to USC in June and he continues to hear from the Gamecocks.
Clemson offered 6-1 Tyrell Jones of Orlando. He also has offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Houston, VCU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Wyoming and others. Jones said he’s still gathering information on Clemson but he plans to give the Tigers a visit.
Clemson offered 6-5 Dontaie Allen of Falmouth, KY. Some other offers are Louisville, Xavier, Iowa, Oklahoma, State, Pitt, Illinois, Florida, Vanderbilt and others. He visited Clemson unofficially the end of June.
