DB Dequanteous Watts (6-1 171) of Atlanta has several major offers at this point. Clemson is not one of them yet, but the Tigers are interested enough in him to have him in for an unofficial visit Wednesday. Watts is hopeful a call from cornersback coach Mike Reed will come soon and he will deliver news of an offer.
“He was like he liked me and all that stuff and he just wants to build a relationship with me then in a few weeks I think they are going to offer me,” said Watts who is actually expecting to hear from Reed Thursday morning for a follow up call. “He said he liked my height, my weight and that I’m very fast.”
Watts said he toured the campus and the facilities and was impressed by what he saw.
His most recent offers were from Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Georgia Southern and Western Kentucky. He also holds offers from Boston College, Virginia, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Temple and others. He said he’ll take upcoming visits to Ole Miss, Tennessee, Michigan State and Ohio State among others.
One of those could be USC.
“I’m supposed to have been talking with Coach McClendon,” Watts said. “He told me to hit him today. I hit him up and he never answered and he hasn’t called me back yet. I’ll just wait until whenever he calls me back. They really been supposed to offer me for the last couple of weeks but I don’t know what’s going on.”
Watts said he won’t sign until February and right now there is no favorite. He plans to drop a top 5-7 in early July.
Last season he had 20 tackles with three interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.
