Oklahoma State Cowboys Head Coach and former South Carolina player and coach Mike Boynton will face his alma mater when the Gamecocks visit Stillwater, Oklahoma for next season’s SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
The two conferences jointly announced the series matchups on Thursday, which will be played on an idle weekend in league play for both on Saturday, January 26th.
Boynton was recruited by Eddie Fogler, playing under him and Dave Odom until 2004, before starting his postgraduate career at Furman. After holding assistant coaching jobs at Coastal Carolina and Wofford, Boynton joined Odom as an assistant at USC.
He would stay on during Darrin Horn’s regime and the first two years current Head Coach Frank Martin spent at South Carolina before joining the staff of Brad Underwood at Oklahoma State. Boynton just completed his first season with the Cowboys.
South Carolina has split their last two meetings with Oklahoma State as part of the SEC/Big 12 challenge, and holds a 2-1 record overall including a 1975 win in Columbia.
The Gamecocks lost their SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup last year to Texas Tech, 70-63.
