PG Rakym Felder had his name added to the list of USC basketball departures Monday morning when Gamecock coach Frank Martin confirmed what was being widely speculated, the mercurial sophomore would not be back with the Gamecocks for the 2018-19 season.
“When Rakym and I met to discuss his return to our program, there were certain things that I asked of him and unfortunately he has not met those expectations,” Martin said in a statement. “I’m disappointed that he did not take advantage of the opportunity to fully return to our program.”
Felder twice was suspended from the program and did not attend classes at USC last fall. He was allowed to return to the University and the team in January and participated in some team activities.
Felder is the fifth member of the roster with eligibility to depart since the end of the season. The Gamecocks currently have seven scholarship players for next season, though Chris Silva and Brian Bowen are testing the NBA draft waters, and three commitments.
As the roster currently stands, the returning players combined for 47 of the Gamecocks 70 points per game last season, and 27 of their 37 rebounds per game.
