A busy day at Clemson for the spring game was capped with a third commitment of the day from DB Lannden Zanders (6-1 180) of Shelby, NC Zanders announced his commitment just minutes after the Tigers completed their Orange & White Game which he attended.
Zanders visited Clemson in late March to watch and spring practice and meet with Dabo Swinney and he said then he got a strong message from Swinney about his need for safeties in this class. ,That was a big lure for him along with the feeling that he just belonged there.
“I felt very comfortable at Clemson,” Zanders said Saturday night. “They have a great coaching staff. They need safeties really bad and they showed that they wanted me to be one of them.”
Last season he had 54 tackles and 6 interceptions. From what he’s seen of Clemson’s defense and how safeties coach Mickey Conn works his guys in and out, he believes there’s a spot for him there.
“Just by using them all around and trusting them,” he said.
Zanders also has offers from Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, East Carolina, Maryland Tennessee and others.
Zanders joins LB Bryton Constantin, QB Taisun Phommachanh and WR Frank Ladson as new Clemson commitments over the past two days. The Tigers now have 8 commitments for the 2019 class. He plans to sign and graduate early.
