RB Chez Mellusi of Naples, FL made a visit to Clemson on Monday. The Tigers had been talking with him for a while but had not offered. That changed on the visit as he picked up the Clemson offer and the Tigers picked up momentum in his recruiting.
“It was amazing. The facilities are amazing. The coaching staff and all that,” Mellusi said. “I wanted to visit because I wanted to see what would happen and they ended up offering me. Clemson offering me kind of narrows down my recruiting to be honest with you. I’ve been in good communication with a lot of the coaches for a while now and I told my head coach at my high school that was one of my favorite schools.”
One of the selling points to Mellusi in considering Clemson is how the Tigers like to use their running backs.
“The use overall running backs, the type that can catch the ball out of the backfield,” he said. “And I love Clemson so much because of the opportunity it gives you. They play in the national spotlight almost every year, they are a playoff team.”
That was his first visit to Clemson. He’s also been to Miami and Notre Dame. Those three are standout to him the most right now along with USC. The Gamecocks offered early in the process and have kept in touch.
“I have a good relationship with Coach Bentley. He keeps in great contact with me,” Mellusi said. “Coach Bentley texts me almost every day. We have a great relationship. He keeps in contact with my father. South Carolina has a good school. It’s a run heavy school.”
He has not visited USC but he plans to next time he returns to the state.
Mellusi said he’d like to make his decision before his season, possibly this spring or summer. He’s not yet determined if he will graduate and sign early.
Running out of the Veer, Mellusi rushed last season for 1500 yards and 19 touchdowns and averaged nearly 9 yards per carry.
