With all of the talk last season surrounding South Carolina’s need to do more on offense, the Gamecocks used the 2018 Spring Game to show their commitment to a new uptempo attack.
The Gamecocks scored on their opening drive, running six plays including four straight completed passes from Jake Bentley, culminating with a Ty’Son Williams touchdown run from 27 yards out.
Bryan Edwards caught three of those passes, en route to a seven-catch day for 117 yards and a touchdown. Bentley went 13-for-21 through the air for 131 yards and two scores. Michael Scarnecchia completed nine passes on 16 attempts for 146 yards including a 49-yard touchdown pass to AJ Turner.
Williams led the Gamecocks with 63 yards rushing, Caleb Kinlaw added 42 and Turner ran for 37.

On the defense, freshman Rosendo Louis led the “Black” squad with five tackles, and Steven Montac had five for the “Garnet” side. Brad Johnson and Shameik Blackshear each had sacks for the defense, on a day where they struggled to make plays.

South Carolina kicker Parker White did his best to try and etch his name as the starting placekicker, making good on attempts from 47 and 46 yards out, but has been told there will still be a competition for the position in the Fall.

Head Coach Will Muschamp singled out JJ Enagbare and Tyreek Johnson as players who stood out among the USC mid-year enrollees. QB Dakereon Joyner had a tough day, managing just one completion for 25 yards and interception passing, and lost a fumble running the football.
Muschamp remained pleased with the progress made in the Spring, although expressed some areas of concern needing fixing before the Fall.

South Carolina will hold two more practices next week on Tuesday and Thursday, more geared toward the younger players on the team. Muschamp announced that the team will report to Fall practice on August 1st.
